Assistant Motor Underwriter - Surrey - up to £21,000 plus excellent benefits
Our client a leading Motor Insurer is actively seeking an experienced motor underwriter to join their established team.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Provision of underwriting support for all motor products and to all business areas across all sites
DIMENSIONS
Financial:
Authority to accept premium accounts write offs up to £100
Authority to reduce rates through premium override by up to 40%
Unlimited authority to load rates through premium override
Authority to accept individual vehicle values up to £79,999
Referral override level 60
Non-financial:
Underwriting support for all motor products at all sites
JOB CONTEXT
The Motor Underwriting department acts as a point of reference for all business areas for all underwriting issues relating to the company's motor products.
The department issues risk control and acceptance criteria for new business, mid term adjustments and renewals, and takes decisions on all cases falling outside the underwriting authority granted to selected operational staff.
The claims department will refer cases where there is doubt about the operation of policy cover for decisions on indemnity. The Fraud Prevention department will refer cases identified in Fraud Prevention screening processes where advice on underwriting terms is required.
Policy renewal reviews are carried out by the department and appropriate terms applied in line with the underwriting philosophy.
The department ensures that the risk control measures and acceptance criteria are being adhered to by carrying out regular internal audits and provide relevant feedback.
The Underwriting Teams work closely together to ensure consistency of underwriting approach and report anomalies to the Underwriting Services Manager.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Action renewal reviews on a daily basis to ensure appropriate terms are applied.
Help resolve day to day underwriting queries and referrals from operations and claims departments in line with acceptance criteria and the underwriting philosophy, referring more complex cases to the Motor Underwriter
Help with the processing of underwriting audits and monitoring of referrals and overrides to ensure risk control measures and underwriting criteria are being adhered to.
Help maintain the underwriting and process guides to ensure data is current and accurate.
Investigate complaints relating to underwriting issues.
Undertake analysis of competitor products and prices to provide accurate information for reporting purposes.
Action referrals made by the Fraud Prevention team
Participate in the handling of police enquiries
Action late notified claims
Participate in project work
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
Authority to make decisions on acceptability of motor risks, which are outside standard acceptance criteria and local authority up to the stated level for the job.
JOB CHALLENGES & PROBLEM SOLVING
The jobholder must be able to communicate effectively with staff that have varying levels of underwriting experience.
Must be able to work on own initiative and within own level of authority whilst maintaining close relationships with all underwriting teams.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
" Technical motor insurance experience in an insurance company or broker
" Authorised to use Delegated Authority.
" PC literate particularly in Word and Excel.
" Good interpersonal skills
" Self motivated with proactive approach.
" Clarity of thought and expression.
" High literacy and numeric ability
